Maya Katalan

Associate

Maya Katalan is an associate at Klaris, where she focuses on intellectual property, media, and First Amendment disputes. She represents and advises artists, authors, publishers, news organizations, and media companies in litigation, as well as in counseling and content advisory matters.

Previously, Maya was a litigation associate at Pryor Cashman LLP, where she played a key role in high-stakes art and entertainment disputes and complex commercial cases. Her experience includes defending a major international auction house in a contract and fiduciary duty case involving artwork attribution (achieving complete dismissal), litigating ownership disputes over the first-ever NFT, representing music producers and record labels in copyright litigation, and working on high-profile art restitution matters.

Maya earned her J.D. from Columbia Law School, where she was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar and received the Michael D. Remer Prize for Excellence in Copyright & Art Law. She served as a Teaching Fellow in Copyright Law, and as a Research Assistant to Professor Tim Wu and to the Kernochan Center for Law, Media, and the Arts. She also advised authors and contributed to advocacy projects as an intern at The Authors Guild. Maya graduated with honors from Duke University.

Maya’s passion for representing creators is rooted in her own enthusiasm for the arts. A proud Philadelphian now living in New York, she can be found exploring her local bookstore and enjoying the city’s arts, music, and food scenes in her free time.
